No matter what I do, I cannot bring down Camille’s fever. She drank the bone broth soup I prepared, but there has been no change. I will go into town tomorrow to buy more turmeric.

Camille continues to cry out for the boy vampire. I can no longer dismiss the fantasy she has created in her mind. Her obsession with him seems to be the only thing keeping her alive. Each evening I search for the pale boy Camille described. Every time I leave the house, I fear upon my return, Camille passed in my absence. But I must find the boy.

My child wears the pallor of death. Her breathing shallow, not providing life affirming air. The doctor has bled her for the last time.

Camille cried out for a withered yellow rose. When I handed her the dead flower, I noted dried blood on a thorn. She told me it was his blood. Camille purposely punctured her skin to allow her blood to be interwoven with his. For the first time she muttered his name. They were her last words. Francois Laurent.

I buried my daughter this morning. It seemed fitting the rose be buried with her. I kept the thorn that contained both their bloods. If they could not be together in this life, I’ll find a way to bring them together in a future one.

COVER REVEAL – Blood Interwoven

I thought I’d share my new Magic, New Mexico cover. By my next newsletter, I hope to have a release date and an Amazon link for you. The link to other retailers will be made available closer to the release date.

What I can share is the hero in the 4th book/novella in the Laurent Blood Legacy series is Laurent himself. Did you imagine in your mind what he looked like? Are you surprised?

I was visiting with my sister and brother-in-law in Jacksonville, Florida when I received the cover. My brother-in-law was able to determine one of the conflict points in the novella by looking at the cover. Have you figured it out?

The newest in The Laurent Blood Legacy series

As many of you know, I live in Southwest Florida. The vast majority of people who live near me are snowbirds. Our sleepy little town during summer swells 300% during ‘season’. I thought wouldn’t it be fun to write a book or novella about a snowbird vampire.
Even though I’m a pantser, I had a certain idea about ‘The Snowbird Vampire’. The heroine would be visiting her ailing grandmother and catches a vampire’s eye. It turns out he had an earlier relationship with her grandmother. I thought I could take the idea and expand on it for the third book in The Laurent Blood Legacy. ‘Blood Intermingled’ begins with  an emotionally and physically scared heroine. We were introduced to Tom, a throwaway name, in ‘Blood Intertwined’. It was time to have the Viking vampire meet his soul mate.
From there, I let my imagination go. I surprised even my editor. With each vampire book, I try to introduce something new. After two series (The Nightshade Saga and The Laurent Blood Legacy) I thought perhaps I didn’t have any fresh ideas. Wrong!
I hope you enjoy ‘Blood Intermingled’.

The Edit Process

Some authors love to write/create, while others love to clean it up. For me, I love the creative process. The editing, not so much. I go through several drafts before I send it to my editor.

When I get my content/developmental edit back, my editor points out what I’m missing, where I went off track, what’s confusing, etc. Tina is conflict crazy, if there’s not enough conflict in the book to keep her interest, she lets me know.

The line edit cleans up my grammar, misspelling, word duplication in a finite space, word selection, the infamous comma, etc.

Finally, a copy edit is preparing for publication. I still send it to a proof reader to catch the inevitable errors.

If all goes well, the reader won’t be able to put the book down. The last thing I want to do is slow down a reader with errors. How many times have you reread a sentence because it didn’t make sense? Horrors!

The edits are back on Blood Intermingled and I’m on schedule for my February 25th release.

Her eyes fluttered and opened. “Jacques,” she whispered.

He froze. Her eyes widened in response to his reaction. For the second time, he saw fear reflected in her eyes.

“What do you know of Jacques Monreau?” His French accent reemerged.

Laura struggled underneath him. “Nothing. He’s a character in my vampire series, nothing more.”

He wasn’t buying it. “Your books are very specific about events and women in his life. Explain that.”

She pushed against his shoulder and he withdrew from her. In a fit of anger, she rolled out of bed, taking the flat sheet with her. “He’s a figment of my imagination.”

“I’m Jacques Monreau and I just read about my life in your books,” Jack struggled to control his anger. He didn’t like being lied to.

“Don’t be ridiculous. Jacques is a vampire who would be over six hundred years old if he existed.” She ran a hand through her tangled hair. “If vampires existed. God, I can’t believe I’m having this discussion.”

The conversation went nowhere. He’d get the answers he needed. Jack rose from the bed and opened his mouth, allowing his fangs to extend.

Laura backed into the wall, her chin and lips trembling. Her hands negligently released the linen she’d wrapped herself in.

Naked, she crumbled to the floor.
